Biblical Scholarship

As a biblical scholar, I care a great deal about what people do with what they find in the Bible. As an educator, I am committed to helping people become better informed about that content so they can decide how to handle it for themselves.

I have written several books, created a couple video series, and have collected interviews and podcast episodes that touch on this material.

Enjoy.

My latest book and what I consider to be the most important work of my life is about what the texts in the Bible really do and do not say about marriage. It is all far more complicated than most people realize.

Permission Granted: Take the Bible into Your Own Hands

I am so proud of this book, which is taught at institutions around the country: undergraduate classrooms, seminaries, even in bible studies in progressive congregations. It can change the way you think about the content in the Bible!
